Motivation Gets You Started. Discipline Keeps You Going.

Many years ago, before everything lived on our phones and watches, I carried an actual physical card with me to the gym.

On it was a sentence I have remembered for decades:

“Motivation gets you started. Habit keeps you going.”

At the time, I thought it was about working out.

Now I know it is about almost everything.

Business.

Parenting.

Relationships.

Goals.

And especially those seasons of life when showing up is much harder than it normally is.

I have lived through one of those seasons.

I have held a sick baby while trying to figure out what was wrong.

I have rotated through doctor appointments.

I have paid copay after copay.

I have taken care of my family while continuing to run the business I worked incredibly hard to build.

There were days when I was exhausted.

Days when I did not feel creative.

Days when recording a video or handling one more thing was the absolute last thing I wanted to do.

And yet, there was not a single week when I completely stopped showing up for the things and people that mattered to me.

Not because I felt motivated.

Because somewhere along the way, motivation became discipline.

That discipline has shaped my family life, my business, and the way I approach DFW real estate client service.

I Am Not Motivated Every Day

I think we sometimes look at people who are consistent and assume they must wake up ready to conquer the world every morning.

I absolutely do not.

Motivation is wonderful when it shows up.

But motivation is emotional.

It changes with sleep, stress, circumstances, health, family, and about a hundred other things.

Discipline is different.

Discipline is doing what you said you were going to do even when nobody would blame you for skipping it.

That does not mean ignoring your health.

It does not mean pretending hard things are not hard.

It does not mean working every second of every day.

For me, it means knowing what matters and continuing to come back to it.

My Work Ethic Did Not Start With Real Estate

I did not suddenly become hardworking when I received my real estate license in 2019.

That part of me was already there.

Before real estate, I worked in customer service, management, accounting operations, and marketing services for an architecture firm.

Then I started a real estate business while raising a family.

My first year in real estate, I helped zero families.

Then 13.

Then 27.

Then 48.

Nobody handed me that business.

There was no magic moment when everything suddenly became easy.

I worked.

I learned.

I showed up when I was uncomfortable.

I made videos when being on camera felt unnatural.

I built relationships.

I followed up.

I made mistakes.

I improved.

Then I did it again.

And again.

And again.

That consistency eventually became the foundation of HART Realty Team and still influences how I work as a DFW Realtor today.

I Grind Hard Because I Care Hard

There is a reason I work the way I do.

The people in my life matter deeply to me.

My family matters.

My clients matter.

The reputation I have built matters.

The people who trusted me enough to refer their parents, children, friends, neighbors, and coworkers matter.

When somebody hands me the responsibility of helping them sell a home or buy one, I do not take that casually.

There is a human being on the other side of that transaction.

There may be years of equity involved.

There may be a new baby coming.

A job change.

A divorce.

A relocation.

An empty nest.

A dream they have been working toward for years.

Or simply someone saying:

“Ashley, I need help figuring out what comes next.”

That means something to me.

My work ethic is not about being busy for the sake of being busy.

It is about knowing people are counting on me.

Some of My Hardest Days Have Still Been Workdays

That may not sound inspirational.

It is just true.

There have been days when I have gone from a doctor appointment to a client conversation.

Days when I have handled something for my children and then turned around and handled something important in a transaction.

Days when I have looked terrible, felt exhausted, and still hit record because I had committed to creating content for my business.

Not every day looks polished.

Not every week feels balanced.

Sometimes you simply do what needs to be done.

And I think that is where a lot of businesses are actually built.

Not during the exciting moments.

During the ordinary days when nobody is watching.

Consistency Built My Business

One video did not build my business.

One client did not build it.

One great year did not build it.

Thousands of small actions did.

Conversations.

Appointments.

Phone calls.

Follow-ups.

Market research.

Listing preparation.

Videos.

Negotiations.

Problem solving.

Learning.

Showing up.

Most of those things are not particularly glamorous.

Together, they built something I am incredibly proud of.

That is why I believe so strongly in consistency in real estate.

You cannot control every result.

I cannot control the real estate market.

I cannot control mortgage rates.

I cannot control whether a buyer loves a particular house.

I cannot control whether life decides to throw something difficult at my family.

But I can control whether I continue to take responsibility for the things that belong to me.

Discipline Does Not Mean Perfection

This is probably the part I understand better now than I did when I carried that little gym card.

Discipline is not perfection.

Sometimes discipline means pushing.

Sometimes it means asking for help.

Sometimes it means relying on the systems you built when life was calmer.

Sometimes it means letting Corinne take something because that is exactly why we built our business the way we did.

Sometimes it means doing less, but making sure the important things still get done.

I have four kids.

I have a business.

I have clients.

I have a marriage.

I have responsibilities outside real estate.

I am not interested in pretending I effortlessly balance all of it every day.

I do not.

What I have learned to do is keep coming back to what matters.

This Is Personal for Me

Real estate is my profession.

HART Realty Team is also something I built.

I remember what it felt like when nobody was calling.

I remember wondering whether I could actually make this work.

I remember being uncomfortable on camera.

I remember the early clients who trusted me before I had years of sales behind my name.

And I remember every stage of growing this business while also raising my family.

So yes, I work hard.

Really hard.

But I do not want that confused with chasing some version of success just so I can say I am successful.

I work hard because I care about what I am building and who I am building it for.

What My Clients Experience Matters to Me

Chris Harding shared:

“Working with Ashley was an absolute joy. She is always available, answers every question and maximized our opportunities while selling. I couldn’t think of anyone better to buy or sell with.”

Reviews like that mean a lot to me because clients see the finished version.

They do not see every early morning.

Every late night.

Every system we built.

Every uncomfortable video.

Every lesson learned from a transaction.

Every time Corinne and I talked through how we could make something better.

They experience the result of all of it.

That is exactly how it should be.

Motivation Got Me Started

Discipline kept me going.

And somewhere along the way, discipline became part of who I am.

I still have days when I do not feel like doing the thing.

I still get tired.

Life still gets messy.

Sometimes very messy.

But I know myself better now.

I know that I will keep showing up.

For my family.

For my business.

For my clients.

For the people who trust me.

And for the version of myself who carried that little card into the gym all those years ago without realizing how much those words would eventually mean.

Motivation gets you started. Discipline keeps you going.

I believe that more today than I ever have.

If you are considering buying or selling a home in Dallas Fort Worth, I cannot promise that every part of the process will be easy.

I can promise that I take the responsibility seriously.

That commitment is at the heart of my DFW Realtor work ethic.

That part is personal.
