A Hard Market Does Not Decide Who Survives. We Do.

Since I joined the industry in 2019 (and as of the date of this publication), more than two hundred thousand agents have left the industry. Projections suggest that number could increase even further.

That statistic gets repeated a lot. Usually with a tone that suggests this outcome is inevitable. Like it is already decided. Like there is nothing anyone can do about it. I disagree. If you ask me, it is not up to the market. It is not up to predictions. And it is not up to headlines. It is up to us.

The Narrative We Keep Accepting

Every challenging market seems to come with a story attached to it. This time, the story is that agents have to leave. That a certain number of people are expected to fail. That this is just how it goes.

But who decided that?

Who said that a hard market automatically means mass exits? Who said challenging changes mean people cannot adapt? Who said there is only room for a limited number of professionals to succeed? Those are narratives, not facts. And narratives can be changed.

Nobody Goes Out of Business Overnight

One of the most important things to remember is this. Businesses do not disappear overnight. There are always signs. Burnout. Isolation. Confusion. Fear. Avoidance. Loss of confidence.

Those signs are not failures. They are signals that support is needed. Signals that something needs to change. Signals that it is time to ask for help.

Too often, people ignore those signs because they believe struggling means they are not cut out for this. That belief is far more damaging than any market condition.

Struggling does not mean you are failing. It means you are human.

This industry is demanding even in strong markets. In uncertain times, the pressure multiplies. Expectations stay high while results take longer. That gap can be exhausting. But struggling does not mean you are done. It means you need support, clarity, or a new approach.

There is a big difference between temporary difficulty and permanent failure. Most people quit too early.

This Is Not a Zero-Sum Industry

Another damaging belief is that there is not enough business to go around. That one person’s success takes away from another’s.

That simply is not true.

This industry thrives on collaboration. Knowledge sharing. Referrals. Support systems. When people help each other, everyone gets stronger. We are all in this industry together. Whether we compete in similar spaces or not, we share common challenges.

Mentorship Is Not a Luxury

If you are struggling, please ask for help. Please find a mentor. Please talk to someone who has been through difficult cycles before. Mentorship is not about having all the answers. It is about having perspective when yours feels clouded. Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to reframe everything. Isolation is one of the biggest threats to longevity in any business.

No one builds a sustainable business in isolation.

There Is Room for You Here

If you are still in this industry, there is a reason. You did not get here by accident. You brought value, skills, and commitment. Those things do not disappear because the market shifts. They need to be supported, not abandoned.

What Success Looks Like Right Now

Success in a challenging market does not always look like explosive growth. Sometimes it looks like staying steady. Refining systems. Strengthening relationships. Recommitting to fundamentals.

Progress is still progress, even when it feels slower.

Why I Want to See You Succeed

This is personal for me. I genuinely want to see people succeed. Not because it benefits me, but because this industry is better when experienced, committed professionals stay in it.

We do not need fewer people. We need more supported people.
